Law Journal

As part of our contributions to Nigerian legal developments, we publish an online law journal annually – the Nigerian Journal of Legal Development.

The Nigerian Journal of Legal DevelopmentThe Nigerian Journal of Legal Development is a peer-reviewed journal that focuses primarily on Nigerian law. Its theme cuts across all areas of Nigerian law and policy. The journal is particularly interested in papers, case comments, and book reviews relating to recondite legal issues in Nigeria.

In recent times, the Nigerian legal landscape is plagued with contentions arising from novel events and situations. Lawyers, law students and legal scholars have resorted to debating such unique legal issues on social media with ferocious tenacity. Often, such discussions lack coordination and coherence. The medium of expression also does not guarantee the required space, erudition and analysis. In the end; what is expected to be an intellectual dialogue usually lead to nowhere.

The Nigerian Journal of Legal Development provides an excellent alternative for analysing these knotty legal issues. The scope of this journal is unlimited. It welcomes contributions from all areas of law provided that the issue(s) under review is not only recondite but also of public interest.

The journal aims at enriching the Nigerian legal development and practice. It is published annually in August and available online. It encourages submissions from faculties, legal practitioners and law students. The Editorial Board of the journal is made up of lawyers and academics with expertise in Nigerian law, but a group of excellent anonymous peer-reviewers makes publication decisions.

Call for Papers – The editorial board of the Nigerian Journal of Legal Development invites papers, case comments, and book reviews for publication in the Maiden edition of our journal. The Journal is refereed and will be accessible online at www.legalmagnates.com in August 2016.

We are interested in papers, comments, and reviews on cutting-edge legal issues in Nigeria. Thus, we would particularly welcome materials exploring the recent judgments of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the various election petition cases across the country. We would also consider materials focusing on the trial of the Senate President at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). In this regard, we are interested in intellectual works analysing the legality or otherwise of the decision of the Senate President to remain in office as such despite his pending criminal trial at the CCT. We are also interested in works critically exploring the decisions of the Supreme Court in this case; including the earlier decision by now retired Justice John Fabiyi, JSC. Furthermore, we would accept quality papers examining the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) vis-à-vis the war against corruption in Nigeria, including the recent arraignment of a senior member of the Nigerian Bar and the propriety or otherwise of the solidarity appearance in court of almost 100 lawyers in his defence. Papers should also examine the recent abduction of a young lassie in Bayelsa State for child marriage purposes and the ineptitude of the Nigerian state in addressing this issue. The lists of contemporary Nigerian legal issues which the manuscripts can explore are by no means closed.

Submissions – Manuscripts should be in the range of 4,000 to 10,000 words in addition to an abstract of approximately 250 words. Word count for book reviews could be shorter. Submitted materials must be original work of the author. We only accept documents in Word format. Send manuscripts as an email attachment to submissions@legalmagnates.com. Manuscripts are accepted all year round, but those submitted after June will be published the following year.
