History

Legal Magnates International is an offshoot of the Legal Magnates & Company which was established on June 30, 2003, as a student organization at the Faculty of Law, Olabisi Onabanjo University (“OOU”), Nigeria. As Legal Magnates & Company, it organized several programs within and outside OOU. It impressed and attracted outstanding attorneys and judges some of whom were inducted as patrons and advisers. Notable amongst these personalities are the erudite retired justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and current Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Justice George Adesola Oguntade, CFR, CON, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ogun State, Mr. Akin Osinbajo, SAN, and the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State who is now the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Ade Ipaye. Today, there are two bodies of the organization – the students’ body which continues to be known as Legal Magnates & Company and the lawyers’ body which is known as the Legal Magnates International Foundation. Legal Magnates International is the parent organization of the two bodies and is registered under the laws of Nigeria and Canada with offices in these countries.
