Conferences & Colloquiums
We organize national, regional and global lectures on topical issues in law. These conferences could be held in honour of reputable legal icons and scholars or for generating awareness for and about a specific legal problem. The colloquiums are typically fora where legal scholars and practitioners deliver sound legal papers. We publish the legal papers from such colloquiums and conferences in the form of edited books. Not only does the publication of the colloquium legal papers contribute to the development of law but also serves as veritable tools for law students, advanced legal researchers, lawyers and judges.
Chief Folake Solanke, SAN Annual Conference and Book Presentation
The Chief Folake Solanke, SAN Annual Conference under the distinguished chairmanship of Chief (Senator) Oluremi Tinubu is in honour of Chief Folake Solanke, SAN – Nigeria’s first female lawyer to be conferred with the highest rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria which is the equivalent of the rank of Queen’s Counsel in Canada and the United Kingdom.
Chief Folake Solanke, SAN is a woman of great accomplishments. In 1972, Chief Solanke was appointed the first female cabinet member of the then Western Nigeria and the first and only woman Chairperson of the then Western Nigeria Government Broadcasting Corporation. In March 1981, Chief Solanke became the first female lawyer to be conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (“SAN”). The next female SAN was not appointed until almost a decade later, underscoring the competitiveness of the position among over 70,000 Nigerian lawyers in which only about 545 have been appointed SAN. And out of the 545 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, only about 20 of them are women. Chief Solanke, SAN remains a source of pride not only for Nigeria and the Nigerian woman but also for Africa and the world. This was confirmed by her election in Hong Kong in 1992 and subsequent installation in Detroit, Michigan on July 21, 1994 as the International President of Zonta International thereby becoming the first non-Caucasian to be elected into this lofty vantage office since the organization was founded in 1919.

Published by the Legal Magnates™ International, this sizeable tome publishes papers from some of the finest Senior Advocates of Nigeria, professors of law, erudite judges, and brilliant lawyers.
At Legal Magnates™ International, one of our core mandates is the organization of an annual national or international conference named in honour of a Nigerian woman who has made ground-breaking and inspiring achievements in her field. The conference also doubles as the public presentation of a book in celebration of the chosen woman. All over the world, men have traditionally been at the forefront of family, legal and political affairs with little or no leadership roles given to women. The continent of Africa is particularly a sad story as many of the exclusions or non-inclusion of women in political, legal and other leadership positions have been unduly justified on some ancient African customs and culture. However, the trend is changing but at a very slow pace. Thus, Legal Magnates™ International is committed to celebrating the few women who have broken records in their fields in Nigeria to serve as motivation to other women and to spur their interest and determination in taking the lead in their fields.
